Our Impact

Building Power for Music Creators.

Five Years. Real Wins. Real Change.

In 2020, Tiffany Red was a working songwriter caught inside the same broken system she'd watched exploit creators for years. There were stories of outdated contracts, missing royalties, no transparency, and no accountability pouring in from her peers, with no organization willing to make enough noise about it. So she built one.

What started as one founder speaking out loudly, publicly, and without apology grew into something the music industry wasn't expecting, because creators rallied around it and institutions took notice. The relationships that would shape The 100 Percenters were built not by making powerful companies comfortable, but by challenging them to evolve their business practices with our ever-evolving industry.

Five years later, we're still at it. And the wins keep coming.

The Wins

1. We Helped Creators Get Their Careers Back.

In our early years, we went to work directly. We helped more than 10 songwriters and producers exit outdated deals that locked them into terms that no longer served them, often signed before streaming was even the dominant format. We learned the system, built relationships with decision-makers and fought until people regained their freedom.

2. We Put Money Where It Matters.

Our grant programs have provided direct support to working songwriters and producers across multiple rounds, backed by institutional partners and individual donors who believe in our work.

We've also helped creators navigate royalty recovery, accessing money that was already owed to them and that had been sitting unclaimed.

3. We’re Helping Change the Rules for Everyone.

We advocated for the elimination of Minimum Delivery Requirements (MDRC’s) in publishing contracts. These were outdated clauses that unfairly bound songwriters and producers to obligations that no longer reflected how music is made or distributed.

We pushed to have BMI members' window periods clearly visible on their dashboards. That change has been made, and creators can now easily see it and act if they choose to.

We also help lead the conversation around songwriter compensation from recorded music, advocating for songwriters to receive a song fee up front and points on the master for their contribution to the sound recording. Our #PaySongwriters petition has garnered over 3,000 signatures from creators and industry supporters, and the conversation is gaining momentum. The industry is slowly evolving on this issue.

4. We Amplified the Voices and Stories of Music Creators.

When music creators face high-stakes legal battles, they're often up against big companies with unlimited resources. We've been a front-facing public advocate for creators navigating copyright infringement litigation while amplifying their stories.

We also founded the Safe Music Business Pledge, challenging the music industry to create safer, more accountable spaces for creators. The Recording Academy, BMI, and others, have signed on. This work is ongoing.

5. We Create Spaces With Intention.

We have built real, in-person experiences for music creators through song camps and panels that bring creators together to collaborate, learn, and build community.

These activations are growing annually, with 100 Percent PRIDE in celebration of Pride Month and 100 Percent BLACK in celebration of Black Music Month, both kicking off in Los Angeles this June.

Creators Can't Wait. Neither Do We.

We respect the work of other advocacy organizations. And we are also clear about what makes us different.

Other organizations focus on policy. We focus on changing industry standards because the way companies treat creators today shouldn't have to wait for legislation to catch up. We do that by building relationships with the companies and institutions that hold power, and by holding them accountable when their practices don't match their promises.

This Is What We’ve Built Without a Fully Funded Operational Budget.

Imagine what we can build with one.

The 100 Percenters Foundation operates on a grassroots budget, doing the work of a fully resourced institution. Every win on this page happened with a limited team, limited infrastructure, and a founder who refused to stop.

We are not asking you to bet on potential. We are asking you to invest in a track record.

If you believe music creators deserve an organization that fights for them, loudly, fearlessly, and without apology, this is where your support belongs.
